Payton has worked in 19 different states on big studio films and dozens of independent features as well as large commercials. He came up as a location manager learning the ropes under well-known producers and directors that include Sayles, Pollack, Solondz, Mann, Chris Eyre, Mike Newell, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and has done seven projects alongside producer Mike S. Ryan. Payton flirted briefly with the corporate world when he became the Director of Operations and Talent Relations – Creative Services for Starz Entertainment LLC. But he quickly decided that being on set and “getting dirty” was more fun than being in an air-conditioned office. Payton has production managed or been a producer on eleven features and has several projects in development including one for which he was also hired to write the screenplay. It is the story of the rise and fall of depression-era gangster “Machine Gun” Kelly and the woman who literally made the man.
